Medicare + TRICARE For Life

How They Generally Work Together

  • TRICARE For Life is generally designed to work alongside Medicare Part A and Part B for eligible military retirees and qualifying family members
  • For Medicare-covered services, Medicare is typically primary — meaning Medicare processes the claim first
  • TRICARE For Life may then act as secondary coverage for TRICARE-covered services, potentially covering some of what Medicare does not
  • ⚠️ Official rules, claim procedures, and what is covered should always be confirmed directly with TRICARE
🛡️

The goal is not to replace your military coverage. The goal is to understand how Medicare, TRICARE For Life, and any optional Medicare choices may interact — before you make a decision.

Important: To use TRICARE For Life, you generally need to be enrolled in both Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B. Maintaining that enrollment is typically a requirement for TRICARE For Life eligibility. Confirm your specific situation with TRICARE directly.
